Instant photography, at one time, meant Polaroid. There is little you can do to make a photograph interesting once clicked. You certainly cannot add titles, border, logo, graphics or any interesting effects before or after, except for the use of some filters. Rather limiting.
Today, interestingly, the definition has changed. Instant photography means being able to access prints immediately on capturing an image in your smartphone or digital camera. Couple this with a printer and you can make a photo interesting before and after capture. If the camera and printer both have wi-fi capabilities, so much the better. At least you do not have to use wires to connect. Anyway that is a different issue. What you can do with instant photography, with just a little bit of creative imagination is to make photos interesting. The simplest way is to not bother about it at all. If you happen to be in Singapore it is easier still. Instant photography Singapore residents can access in an easy way is through instagram instant prints. Simply set your instagram profile to public, capture your photo and upload to instagram with event #hashtag and collect photos from The company’ booth. There is wisdom in letting others do the thinking and jobs and enjoy the benefits.
The company does have booths across Singapore. Simply drop in at any of their booths, pose, let the booth camera take your pic and then select from a range of borders and special effects before punching the print button.
Regardless, when you are thinking of instant photography do try to fill the frame with the subject or subjects before clicking. The other usual rules of photography apply such as avoiding any bright spots or sources of light behind the subject facing the lens, adequate lighting and making sure that objects in the background do not seem to be popping out of the subject’s head. Cellphones usually have wide angle lenses so taking a close up from close up will result in perspective distortion which must be avoided as the face looks quite different with an elongated nose. Take the photo from a distance and crop, after which add a border around the subject. Borders make photos interesting.
In this age of color people usually understand the power of monochrome. Ever tried turning a color photo into a sepia or grayscale image? Try it.
Words with images have a symbiotic and synergistic effect so, before printing, add some text relevant to the image you have captured. They say an image is worth a million words but one word added to an image can make it priceless.
Do not overlook the power of props. No we are not talking about propeller planes or prop jets. It is a simple addition to a set to make a photo more interesting. If you do not have props do not worry, the printer or camera will usually have something interesting you can insert to liven up the photo. Like, for instance, you put a heart in a photo and put your girl friend’s face in the heart. Yes, this is possible in instant photography.

This design is incredible! You certainly know how to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
